Dr. Cindy L. White is Professor of Communication at CCSU. White also teaches in the Program in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and the Honor’s Program. Professor White teaches a variety of courses in the Media Studies major that offer students an opportunity to examine, analyze and critique contemporary media processes and representations. Professor White is the recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award. Professor White’s recent research includes published work on Children and Television and Representations of Sports, Athletes, and Women in Contemporary Advertising. Her earlier work focused on the Rhetoric of the Black Women’s Club Movement in America. White’s work has appeared in several journals including Critical Studies in Communication andCommunication Quarterly as well as in several edited volumes. Her most recent work examines representations of nature and the natural world in American advertising. Professor White’s love of teaching extends to her community outreach work. She has provided workshops, training programs, and consulting services on media literacy for schools and community organizations; gender and communication; and communication skills for professionals to a variety of local and national organizations.
